Compliance Monitoring / Situation Awareness

Operational environments are often governed by sets of rules or constraints that describe acceptable or unacceptable behavior or performance.  These rules and constraints can be richly modeled in Cyc in terms of domain concepts, relations, and values.  By monitoring the operational environment, including data repositories and streaming sensor data, Cyc can identify and report on conditions of interest, explain how it has identified them, and present recommendations for acting on, or remediating, them.  This same powerful mechanism can be used to detect problems in complex physical environments (such as oil wells or missile launch facilities), behaviors of organizations and individuals (such as compliance violations), natural disasters (such as flooding and power outages), and malicious activities performed by both humans and software agents (including fraud or network intrusions).
