Comment: The U.N. Security Council is the organ of the United Nations responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security. The Council may decide on enforcement measures, economic sanctions (such as trade embargoes), or collective military action.

Affiliations:

- China,
- the United Kingdom,
- the United States,
- and France
are permanent members of the Security Council.
Russia has been a permanent member of the Security Council since 1991.

There are many of some generic agent such that it is an independent country and it is a member of the Security Council.

From 1998 or earlier to at least November 1999,
- Brazil,
- Gabon,
- Slovenia,
- The Gambia,
- and Bahrain
were elected members of the Security Council.
From 1997 or earlier to at least November 1998,
- Portugal,
- Costa Rica,
- Sweden,
- Japan,
- and Kenya
were elected members of the Security Council.

The Security Council directed every United Nations peace-keeping operation and every United Nations peace-enforcing operation.

The Security Council is an organization of countries. The Security Council is composed exclusively of independent countries.
